Hard work, inspiring success
Kent did not seem immediately destined for law school when he decided to quit high school before graduating. His father tried to help by getting him a job working for a bank, a job at which he was, in his own words, “spectacularly unsuccessful”. So unsuccessful was he in fact, that he decided school might actually be a good idea. He drove a taxi for a year to put aside some money and to qualify to apply to University as a mature student. He was accepted at Saint Mary’s University. Older than his classmates and armed with some life experience he now took his studies very seriously. Majoring in English and Philosophy, he became an A student and graduated magna cum laude.
A sign on the wall at the University instructed students who were interested in Law School to see the dean with their transcript. Kent met with the dean who was impressed enough to think he could get a full scholarship to UNB. A disbelieving Kent wound up going to Dalhousie instead since he was living in Halifax. He ended up a Beaverbrook Scholar graduating 4th in a very strong class. For the “high school dropout and spectacularly failed banker” this was life changing and a very proud accomplishment.
Kent articled with Clark Drummie in Saint John, before forming Rideout and Robinson in Moncton in the early 1980s. In 1987, he was part of the trio who founded the firm now known as Bingham Law.
Affable and smart, generous with his time and inspiring confidence in others, Kent has taken a leading role in virtually every board or committee he has joined including the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Moncton Economic Commission, the Greater Moncton International Airport Authority, the Codiac Regional Policing Authority, and the Moncton Gun Club.

Random facts
My favourite movie: I have to do it in categories, there are so many: My Fair Lady, I’ve seen it at least 2 dozen times and I’m still in love with Audrey Hepburn, Gone with the wind, Saving Private Ryan, As Good As It Gets, The Tenant, Repulsion.
You might not know: I have a mind for trivia, there are more trivial things in my mind than you would believe!
Books: Love English literature, favourite book is Moby Dick.
Favourite saying: “When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.” Of uncertain origin, but often attributed to Mark Twain.
